HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department
of Psychology was started in the year 1972-73 by Prof.V.R.Kurandwadkar and Prof.v.B.Hiremath
joined the department as a full time lecturer in 1974-75. The Psychology
laboratory established in the year 1976. Counselling cell was established on
2005.
VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT
ALL- ROUND DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONALITY:
Assessment
of personality is constantly going on in every walk of our life. The motto of
the Department is to know the traits of the individuals and make them adjust
with the environment. Mental health is the essence of life. In this direction,
the Department will strives hard to bring a balance between social and
individual life. To achieve this, the department has started a counselling
centre to counsel the students about their Psychological problems.
Department
of Psychology is student oriented; we intend to bring out the potentialities of
students to the optimum level, so that the individual and society are
harnessed. In this direction, achieving excellence by developing potentialities
of the student is our motto. FACULTY

Prof. M.C.NANDEESH: Selection
Grade Lecturer. Done his post-graduation in M.A. Psychology with Industrial
Psychology and secured IInd Rank

He joined as Lecturer in the year 18.06.1988.
· Attended training workshops at FIRD training Programme
on TQM at Mangalore in August,2002.
· Attended Orientation Programmes and Refresher courses
in Applied Psychology at Sri. Venkateswara University, Tirupati in the year
1998.

Refresher Course at NIMHANS June,200 at Bangalore.
· Attended Refresher course at Centre for Professional
Development, Highers Education, and University of Delhi.
· Refresher course at Osmania University, Hyderabad in
the year 2001. Attended National seminar as a Resource Person.

in the year 2005.

treatment in the oral surgeries without using Anaesthesia. At Birmingham United

3. Learning resources of the
department like Library, computers, Laboratory and others:
There is a separate psychology
department which is well equipped. The department has a computer and with a
Wi-Fi Facilities. Some of the equipment’s are electronic and some are non-
electronic to meet the needs of the students. The department has verbal, non-verbal and
performance intelligence tests, aptitude tests, personality test. We have
charts on Brain, eye, Ears and Illusion. Psychology books are place in the
Central Library. There are 732 books of which 393 are reference books and 339
are text books.
4. Enhancement of learning
resources ( last 5 years) and new journals, text books and reference books are
added to the library.
Other than lecture method, the
faculty makes use of modern teaching methods like ICT ( Information and
Communication Technology), charts and maps etc., to create interest among the
students. We motivate students to involve themselves in project work. Advanced
learners in the department are challenged to work on project assignment.
Library research and field research are the major areas of research activity in which students are
involved. Other students are given home assignments, seminars and group
discussions etc.
5. Modern Teaching Methods in practice other than the lecture method.
To supplement the lecture method,
teachers involve students in interaction, group discussion and seminars. Tests
and examinations are conducted to get the feedback on learning advancement.
Learners work on project assigned to them. All make the learning process more
effective and efficient.
6. Participation of teachers
in academic and personal counselling of students.
Formal academic and personal
counselling is given to the students by the faculty. Apart from this -30
students from various programmes are given counselling through Mentorship
programme. Wherein we collect personal data and guide the students towards
achieving academic excellence.

B.A.Ganagi has attended two national seminars and two workshops.

Prof. M.C.Nanddesh has attended refresher course and orientation course for
faculty improvement.

members have worked as Question Paper Setters, Examiners and Moderator of
Karnataka University, Dharwad.

conduct class test, semester examination, and Practical examinations and
organize seminars the department.

Ø Faculty
members participate extension activity programme like NSS, SRC, Blood Donation
Camp, Pulse Polio, AIDS Awareness Rally and visits conducted by the college.
14. Methods of continuous student assessment.
Students are evaluated by two unit
tests, mid-term test and preparatory examinations. They are also assessed on
the basis of their assignment work, seminar, project work and regularity
practical classes.

The
significant achievement of the department is the Psychological Counselling Cell
was instituted during 2004-05.
